Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you provide manual lymphatic drainage to reduce post-operative swelling?

Yes, our team uses gentle techniques to manually reduce post-operative swelling by manually accelerating the normal flow of excess lymphatic fluid in the body.

  • Do you provide body sculpting massage to smooth out fibrotic and tight areas?

Yes, most clients who received a liposuction procedure include lumps and ridges beneath the skin where the liposuction took place. If left untreated, these could turn into long-lasting fibrotic tissue. To treat these ridges and lumps, we perform Swedish massage strokes or sculpting massages, like effleurage and friction, to break up the lumps and ridges to promote smoothness.

  • How many massages should I schedule?

Ideally, you will need 2 or more sessions per week after your first post-op visit with your doctor for 3 weeks. After that, you can come in for sessions as often as you need. Please book your massages in advance to accommodate your schedule prior to your surgery date.

  • Because of my BBL, I am not supposed to sit down or lie on my back. Can you accommodate me?

Yes, we can accommodate you. If you can lie on your stomach, kneel, or stand, we can access your back, sides, and abdominal area with no problem. At our facility, we also have BBL pillows that may allow you to lie on your back with support.

  • After my post-operative recovery is complete, can I continue to schedule massage sessions with you?

Absolutely! We would love to continue working with you! After receiving therapeutic massages, most of our clients truly enjoy the experience and continue to schedule massages once a month to promote health and wellness.

  • How soon should I have MLD after my cosmetic surgery?

The earlier, the better. MLD is extremely gentle and significantly decreases the presence of bruising, swelling, stiffness, burning or shooting pain, scars, and lumps. Getting the first drainage massage is best 24 hours after your surgery.

  • How often should I have MLD done after a cosmetic procedure?

During the first week, a session every 1-2 days is recommended. After that, every 2 days, followed by maintenance. Maintenance includes 1 per month for the next 5 months.

  • Who should not have an MLD Massage?

With such light contact, any danger of causing tissue damage is small. However, there are a few conditions that are contraindicated. These include acute inflammation, malignant tumors, thrombosis, phlebitis, or anyone with major heart problems.

  • What happens during a treatment?

MLD is a specific technique that is both specialized and advanced, so the patient may need to fill out a questionnaire or record card at the therapist's discretion. The entire session is usually done lying face-up since most lymph node areas that need decongestion are situated on the front of the body (although some surgeries require the client to move side-by-side or face-down if tolerated for a short time).

Lymph fluid will be directed to nodal areas for elimination using feather-light pressure and circular movements. MLD is concentrated on one area or quadrant of the body and takes an average of one hour.

  • What are possible side-effects?

Relaxation is certainly one! In addition, you may experience increased urination, energy, and decreased swelling.

After the treatment, you may be dizzy when you first sit up, and diarrhea and nausea may occur later the same day.

  • Why do I need Lymph Drainage Therapy after my liposuction, Smart-lipo, Cool Sculpting or other cosmetic surgery procedure?

You may notice a hardness or lumpiness to the areas treated with liposuction Smart-lipo, or Cool Sculpting, especially in the abdominal area. If you also received any other body contouring procedures, such as fat injections for what is popularly known as the Brazilian Butt Lift, this is normal after your procedure.

This post-surgical lymphedema is caused by inflammation and trauma from the cannula (an instrument that sucks out the fat) moving under the skin. Channels are formed by the cannula that can fill up with fluid, and the tissue also becomes swollen.

Manual Lymph Massage helps to move the fluid by gently pumping it back into the lymph vessels, reducing swelling and discomfort. Without Lymph Massage (LDT or MLD), the inflammation can evolve into fibrosis (a permanent hardening of the tissue), or a seroma ( pocket of serum) can form. Lymph Drainage Therapy is often prescribed after liposuction or other plastic surgery procedures to ensure their patients get the best possible results.

  • Is Lymph Drainage Therapy a deep massage?

No, although it may seem that deep massage would assist in decreasing the hardness following liposuction, it would actually increase the circulation to the treated areas making it harder to evacuate the lymph fluid. Even though MLD is extremely light work, it's the most efficient way to reduce swelling and bruising, based on scientific knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the Lymphatic System.

It is a myth that deep massage and heat are beneficial in healing after liposuction. While the Vodder Method and the Chikly Technique are widely accepted forms of Lymph Drainage Therapy performed in hospitals and clinics worldwide, it may seem to you that a deep massage or other forms of therapeutic or Swedish massage would be helpful, but it is not.

  • Does MLD help get rid of bruising?

Yes. Bruises are an accumulation of cellular debris and old red blood cells in the tissue. Lymph Drainage Therapy greatly reduces the healing time for bruises by cleansing the extracellular spaces where these substances are trapped.

  • Is Lymph Drainage Massage Painful?

If the treatment is performed properly, it is not painful. While the Vodder Technique is the most respected method of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) worldwide, it is NOT traditional massage. It is a specialized, advanced bodywork modality that uses a gentle, rotating, pumping motion that moves the lymph fluid without increasing blood circulation.

Increasing blood circulation with deep massage and heat can actually inhibit the movement of lymph fluid by changing the permeability of the lymph and blood vessels. Do NOT receive a general therapeutic, deep tissue, or Swedish Massage instead of MLD.

  • What is an MLD treatment like?

After an initial consultation, you will undress and lie down on a massage table in the face-up position, covered modestly with a sheet. The atmosphere is the same as a massage treatment room, with dim lighting and soft music. Although you are in a massage setting, it is important to understand that MLD is a specific form of bodywork designed to move lymph fluid in your body efficiently.

MLD is completely different from deep tissue, Swedish, or relaxation massage you may have been expecting or received. Stimulation of the Lymphatic System activates the parasympathetic nervous system producing an automatic physiological relaxation response. Only the area being worked on is undraped at any time. Gentle, rotating, pumping motions with the therapist's hands and fingertips begin at the collarbone area, then focus on areas with a concentration of lymph nodes. Usually, the entire session is performed with you lying in the face-up position because all of the areas of lymph nodes that need to be decongested are located on the front of the body. However, some surgeries require the patient to turn side to side or face down for a short time if tolerated.

Starting on the back (even for fat injections to the buttocks) would not be indicated because it is necessary to open up the major lymphatic areas on the front of your body before the backside of the body can drain. It is very important to decongest the drainage areas in the groin, abdomen, underarms, and collarbone areas before sending extra lymph fluid to them. Directing lymph fluid to nodal areas without opening the lymph nodes up first increases the discomfort and overwhelms the nodes, leading to increased recovery time.

  • Does Lymphatic Massage Force Fluid Out of Surgical Incisions?

NO!!! The popularity of "Lymphatic Evacuation" you may come across on social media platforms is not an accurate depiction.

In cosmetic surgery recovery homes and med-spas across the country, massage therapists are using extreme measures to relieve fluid pressure in the body by forcing it out—literally out—through incision sites, in some cases opening up closed incisions to do so.

We understand the appeal of this technique when you're swollen and can barely move, you tend to prefer dramatic action in order to feel normal again as quickly as possible. The excess fluid bypasses the lymphatic capillaries, lymph nodes, and kidneys and escapes through a hole.

But there is one big, glaring problem with this method, especially when done outside of a medical facility by those who are not licensed nurses or medical professionals: risk of infection.

  • Can you remove my drain?

We DO NOT remove drains. It is not within our scope or practice. Removing drains is done by your physician.

"Lymphatic Drainage," a.k.a. Lymphatic Massage, is a very gentle technique using a light touch. It does not involve opening an incision to squeeze fluid out or squeezing so hard that it pops open an incision. If anyone suggests that, please do not use their services!

Cavitation Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Is Ultrasonic Cavitation?

Ultrasonic Cavitation is a relatively new aesthetic treatment using cutting-edge ultrasound technology. Ultrasonic Cavitation is a weight-loss treatment that uses ultrasound waves to burst fat cells, which may result in lost inches on the treated areas and a slimmer figure.

It is a 100% outpatient procedure and causes an emulsification of fat, converting fat into a substance that can be eliminated through the lymphatic systems. To put it simply, this is a simple procedure that relies on Ultrasound waves to flush fat from the body instead of intensive surgery.

  • How does ultrasonic cavitation work?

The procedure works on the principle of low frequency. Ultrasounds are elastic waves that are not audible to people (above 20,000Hz), and during an ultrasonic cavitation procedure, noninvasive machines target specific body areas with Ultrasound waves and, in some cases, light suction. Without surgical operations, energy signals are efficiently transmitted through your skin to disrupt adipose tissue. This process heats and vibrates the layers of fat deposits below the skin's surface and eventually causes the fat cells to liquefy and release their contents into the lymphatic system.

  • Does ultrasonic cavitation work?

Yes, but results may vary depending on your individual health history and body type. You may slim down more or less dramatically or have longer- or shorter-lasting results than others.

  • How many treatments do I need? How often should I be treated to see results?

A single body part treatment lasts 30-45 minutes, and 48-72 hours must pass between sessions for the body to eliminate the fat. Generally, most people begin to see a difference in 3 treatments.

Often time you'll see results after the first session. However, between 8 and 12 sessions are needed for optimum results. The exact number of treatments will vary due to age, weight, and the area being treated.

  • Is this procedure invasive?

No this procedure is not invasive.

  • Is there any downtime?

There is no downtime at all.

  • How long does the result of ultrasonic cavitation last?

Ultrasonic Cavitation does not destroy fat cells, but you can achieve "volume reduction" of fatty tissues and "toning of the body." This procedure uses cavitation technology (ultrasound) to attack fat deposits that have proven a daunting task to shed off despite dieting and regular exercising. Simply put, this procedure makes the fat cells release their contents, which means they can store fat again.

The results are gradual over several weeks as your body clears the broken-down fatty tissues, and it is not uncommon to achieve up to 10 cm. reduction by the end of the treatment course. The results can be long-lasting, provided you follow a healthy diet and exercise program. However, it is very easy to deposit fat again into the tissues if one overeats, consumes too much alcohol, or doesn't exercise.

Ultimately the result may vary depending on the individual's tissue structure, treatment area, age, metabolism, medication, and hormone changes.

  • What are Side Effects of ultrasonic Cavitation?

While side effects of Ultra Cavitation are rarely heard of, that doesn't mean there are none. Side effects we found in reviews include:

    • Skin redness and irritation
    • Increased body temperature
    • Mild aches and pains
    • Increased thirst
    • Headache
  • What is the Ultrasonic Cavitation After Care?

The most important part of this process is to follow the ultrasonic cavitation aftercare instructions to achieve the desired results.

    • Increase water intake.
    • Choose healthier, nutrient-rich foods.
    • Add daily exercise to tighten skin and lose any extra weight.
    • Avoid fatty foods.
    • Avoid alcohol.
  • Is Ultrasonic Cavitation a safe treatment?

Yes, this procedure is safe. As a nonsurgical procedure without anesthesia, it is non-invasive (no cutting, leaves no scars or needs post-operative course), and allows for a full social life both before and after the sessions.

  • Is it possible to lose weight with Ultrasonic Cavitation?

IT IS NOT FOR HIGHLY OBESE INDIVIDUALS. Ultrasonic Cavitation is NOT a method to lose weight but rather to shape the body. The treatment reduces stubborn fatty pockets that won’t go away with diet and exercise.

  • Where do the fat cells go?

Your body absorbs the fat, passing through the liver and coming out as waste. The fat cells are broken down, but the cells can grow again with a high-calorie diet. Thus, pairing the treatment with one of Executive Medical's weight loss programs is recommended.

  • Is the procedure painful?

No, the treatment is not painful. Patients may feel a slight heat sensation or tingling, but otherwise, the treatment is painless.

  • Who is the ideal candidate for Ultrasonic Cavitation?

Patient should generally be fit and healthy and be within 10-15% of their ideal weight.

  • Is Ultrasonic Cavitation for everyone?

There are contraindications for using cavitation devices for the treatment of localized fat. Ultrasonic Cavitation is not for people with heart disease, who carry a pacemaker, kidney failure, or liver failure, who are pregnant or have recently given birth naturally or received a C-section.

Getting GP approval is recommended post-childbirth if you would like to try Ultrasonic Cavitation.

  • Where are fat cells stored?

The size of the fat cells in each person can differ greatly, regardless of size or weight, but the number of fat cells is the same. Fat is stored inside adipocytes as triglycerides and can be found between the muscles and the skin membrane.

  • What happens to the released fat?

Excess fat is released into the interstitial space between the cells during and following the cavitation treatment. Here it is metabolized to Glycerol and fatty-free acids. Water-soluble Glycerol is absorbed by the circulatory system and used as an energy source. The insoluble fatty-free acids are transported via the liver and kidneys, processed as fatty acids from foods, and then eliminated naturally from the body.

  • What can be treated with the cavitation system?

All areas with localized fat, such as thighs, abdomen, and buttocks, are the most appropriate to be treated. The treatment works on Cellulite, general fat reduction, and skin tightening. For Cellulite, the ultrasound focuses on the superficial fat tissue. The best results are achieved with the radio frequency when the ultrasound is applied.

  • Do I need to diet & exercise?

Drinking water is a necessary part of the fat-elimination process. Drinking 1.5 liters of water before and after each session is recommended. A low-calorie diet and regular exercise should be maintained in order to aid the body in naturally passing the fat through its own natural filtration system.

  • What are the pre-treatment and post treatment guidelines?

Ensure you maintain a low-calorie diet for a few days following the treatment to ensure the energy released is properly utilized and metabolized by the body. In addition, drinking water is a necessary part of the treatment to facilitate the elimination of broken-down fat. After the treatment, patients can return to their daily activities as usual.

Cryo T-Shock Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Cryo T-Shock Safe?

The device is very safe. In terms of programming and electronics, it is managed by a computerized Windows system. The cooling system is controlled by an electronic temperature sensor located in the processing head of the device, and the temperature is controlled in real-time by the machine and figures displayed on the screen. Pagani created the Cryo T Shock five years ago and sold hundreds of European units. This exact machine won the most innovative device award at Gicare 2014 International Expo in Paris.

  • How Does It Work?

The body contouring treatments last roughly 60 minutes and are done manually with a massage technique. Beginning with 2 minutes of heat and then a prolonged period of cold (22-26 minutes) and then back to heat for another 2-3 minutes, this treatment lowers the temperature of the fat cells enough to cause what is known as the phenomenon of apoptosis. This phenomenon is triggered when the temperature of the fat tissue is between 12 and 17 C, which causes these cells to die. The cells are then naturally passed through the body's lymphatic system and excreted through sweat and urine.

  • What Are the Benefits?

Clinical studies have shown that this technology naturally destroys fat cells, but as with most techniques, the results vary from one individual to another. The expected effect is usually rapid. Some fat cells are destroyed during the session, while most will be eliminated within 2 to 3 weeks. It has also been proven to help with microcirculation and a significant increase in collagen due to the thermal shock caused by the hot and cold.

  • How Does It Feel?

The treatment is painless, with some clients describing it as rather pleasant. This is due to the massage technique and the session beginning with skin warming and descending into a gradual temperature decrease.

    Contraindications

Anyone with the conditions below should not do this treatment:

    • Kidney disease or dialysis
    • Pregnant women
    • Severe diabetes
    • Undergoing chemotherapy

    Frequency of Treatments

Fat-freezing treatments can be performed once every 15 days. There is a physiological reason for this: when apoptosis occurs, and some fat cells die, waste is formed. This will be eliminated by natural routes (blood, lymphatic system, and urine). Metabolism must therefore be allowed to evacuate this waste without overloading the system. Other treatments can be performed more frequently as there is different waste removal required.

  • What Should I Do Following a Treatment?

A vigorous workout, massage or compression will accelerate the benefits.

  • What’s The Difference Between the Cryo T Shock and Other Body Contouring Treatments?

There are other manual cryotherapy machines. But tests and experience have shown that no other machine is capable of such dramatic results as the Cryo T-Shock. These results are because the device produces both heat and cold. The exchange within these temperatures dramatically affects the body's tissues, causing them to drop to 12 °. Fat tissues die and pass through the lymphatic system when they reach this temperature.

    Possible Side Effects

There are generally no side effects apart from the amount you urinate will increase slightly over the 3 days following the treatment, along with the appearance of your urine in color. Any localized redness will disappear after a few hours. In rare cases, localized pain may occur but will dissipate within 2-3 hours. Itching may occur however this is generally due to the reaction of certain cosmetic products used by clients.

  • Who Should Consider This Treatment?

Anyone who is looking to lose weight, reduce cellulite, tighten saggy skin or treat stubborn areas of fat they are looking to remove.

  • How Long Do the Results Last?

Depending on the individual and their lifestyle and diet, the results last several months to several years. For fat loss treatments, the change is permanent, much like liposuction but must be maintained with a proper lifestyle as ALL fat loss treatments can be reversed if weight is continually being gained. For Cellulite and Skin Tightening, an ongoing monthly maintenance schedule is recommended.

  • How Quickly Will I See Results?

The first results are generally visible within a week following the first session and sometimes immediately; however, it should be noted that the best results appear in 2 to 3 weeks after the start of treatment and extend for several months after the end of treatment.
